SHENZHEN LONGHUA SECOND FOREIGN LANGUAGES SCHOOL
The project is located in Dashuikeng Community, Fucheng Street, Longhua District, Shenzhen. It is backed by Balcony Mountain Forest Park, adjacent to Guanlan Golf course and Huawei Headquarters, which enjoys smooth traffic and abundant landscape resources. The campus covers an area of 119,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 70,000 square meters and can accommodate 3,000 students in 60 classes. The green area of the project is 48007.91 square meters, the green area rate is 40.28%, and the coverage rate is 98%.
基于此，在深圳市龙华区第二外国语学校景观设计中GND杰地以“多元 · 共享 · 自然”为核心建构多尺度的景观空间，打造集户外运动空间、晴雨活动空间、多重庭院空间、户外教学空间、休憩游乐空间、自然教育空间于一体的可拓展型校园景观。形成高度灵活，满足多种教学场景及多元化的互动体验，又与周围景观和谐共生的可持续发展校园景观。
This landscape design is based on the changes and demands of education development in the new era. At the beginning of the project design, the design team comprehensively analyzed the space requirements for outdoor activities on campus from the aspects of safety, venue, physiology, psychology, and teaching content, and proposed solutions. In addition, the design team also deeply interprets the opportunities provided to the landscape by architectural functions, streamlines, and height differences, and analyzes the wind direction and sunlight conditions of the project site, so as to provide a basis for the distribution of event venues and the creation of plant scenes.
Based on this, in the landscape design of SHENZHEN LONGHUA SECOND FOREIGN LANGUAGES SCHOOL, with “diversity, sharing, nature” as the core concept, GND develops a multi-scale landscape space, creating an expandable campus landscape that integrates outdoor sports space, rainy and rainy activity space, multiple courtyard spaces, outdoor teaching space, recreation space, and natural education space, so as to form a highly flexible and sustainable campus landscape that can meet a variety of teaching scenarios and diversified interactive experiences, and coexist harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.
设计解读 | Design interpretation
Based on the teaching philosophy of “foreign language orientation and diversified teaching” of SHENZHEN LONGHUA SECOND FOREIGN LANGUAGES SCHOOL, the design combines the schooling characteristics of “eight major classrooms”. Based on the behavioral habits, psychological perception, activity needs and architectural conditions of different user groups in the landscape environment, this project combines the site environment to optimize the spatial combination relationship to create a shared, interactive and participatory landscape site.
Create a place for students to grow collective consciousness and self-consciousness; provide a personalized education platform for teachers to grow together with students; provide convenient transportation for parents and develop social places in the circle of friends; provide a good environment for logistics and a professional and safe operation space; create an open campus for lifelong learning for the society.
Opportunities offered by the architectural framework for the landscape: with clear functional zoning and grey space design. The service object is a clear courtyard space.
By analyzing climatic conditions and combining functional requirements, this project can form more semi-outdoor, multi-surface, multi-level activity spaces and natural education spaces.
设计策略 | Design strategy
Inspired by liberal arts education, the design successfully integrates high-density building volumes and complex functions. Through multiple streamline organizations, rich and practical park functions, colorful activity spaces and immersive ecological experience, this project creates a healthy and comfortable campus life for teachers and students.
The courtyard space enclosed by the building is functionally divided and linked with the gray space of the building. Combining height difference, moving line, function interspersed, facade color and plant landscaping, it creates a landscape space and visual experience with unique scene memory.
Plant landscaping organizes the park and the public space of the block, and eliminates the boundary of the space. The creation of sky gardens and roof gardens maximizes sustainability while taking both aesthetics and an immersive ecological experience into account.
The single space form is broken, thereby creating multiple streamlines combined with terrain height differences to form multiple ground spaces that can be shuttled up and down.
Teachers and students can all experience the campus landscape from different angles and heights. The pedestrian system connects courtyards, overhead floor, sports fields and roof gardens, providing different interesting space experiences such as free shuttle, playing under the forest, walking in the sky, and climbing high to look into the distance.

This project is designed to create an efficient, complex, shared, and dynamic high-quality campus landscape space, so that it can adapt to the educational goals and diversified teaching methods that future education needs to be innovative, diversified, and personalized. At the same time, this design is conducive to stimulating the curiosity and creativity of students, and enhancing their learning and living experience.

Main entrance of the campus
The landscape design of the main entrance area of the campus uses the terrain height difference to create landscaping. Arbors planted, memory trees, barrier-free ramps and intertwined green groups create a wonderful rhythm and echo between all levels, creating a multi-dimensional, free and lively campus environment. As a transition space between the street and the school, the broad tree-lined square provides parents with a place where they can shade and enjoy the shade, making the school and the city harmoniously integrated.
Outdoor sports space
Combining with the site environment, this project connects the gray space of the building and the outdoor space, making it a multi-functional sports venue that is shared, free and inclusive, and full of fun. In addition, in this project, trees with large crowns and strong shade, straight trunks, and easy maintenance are used to enclose the area. The lower level creates linear plant space with trimmed hedges. This project also uses plants as a medium to connect people and nature, allowing children to exercise, run, play, explore freely, communicate and share, and relax and watch in the environment of birds and flowers, so as to release their playful nature.
Rainwater garden space
In the rain garden area, the light is weak, and shade-tolerant green plants are planted. In addition, the project also sets up infiltration green space, landscape water, and ecological retention area to create an ecologically sustainable landscape, so that teachers and students can perceive the nature of the four seasons when exploring and experience, and enrich emotional memory.
Outdoor teaching space
In order to improve the efficiency of land use and expand the functional space, the changes in scale and floor height are cleverly used at the junction of the building and the landscape, creating a vertical space system connecting the upper and lower floors, forming multiple ground places. These new “grounds” form flowing shared spaces, such as promenades, enclosed courtyards, outdoor classrooms, multi-functional steps, and fun playgrounds. The boundaries between indoor and outdoor are also animated by these spaces.
Landscape courtyard space
Students can also perform various activities in the courtyard, such as small bands, dramas, song and dance performances, movie broadcasts, and speeches. These activities enrich and activate the campus cultural life, and also create more possibilities for students' extracurricular activities.
In addition, the fun playground colors continue the visual sense of the sports field. Solid and weather-resistant log-colored preservative wood and sesame ash burnt stone are selected as materials. The big tree echoes the space softly. The minimalist and natural aesthetics accentuate the organic nature of the concept, while enhancing the sense of belonging and identification of the area and blending in with its surroundings.
Natural education space
In order to create a sustainable campus with the greatest contact with nature, the project has set up a roof garden level with an area of 6059 square meters. Continuous multi-level terraces and roof gardens become excellent carriers for daily teaching, rest activities and ecological experience.
The landscape design of this project adheres to the principle of people-oriented, considers the relationship between the building function and the site environment, and advocates the parallelism of multiple education, natural environment and cultural life. The efficient use of space creates a three-dimensional composite green campus and integrates it into the daily life of the campus. As a result, teachers and students have more contact with nature in limited time and space, so that the campus ecological landscape is integrated into the urban landscape in a more natural and perfect manner.
